Ok so what if Litchi had an s/o that was just cool with Arakune? Like she sees them chiling and they're like "yeah that's a pretty fucked up looking dog"
Family pet Arakune is funny to think about lmao
Tumblr media
-Your first interaction with Arakune was quite the experience, to say the least. Something you obviously couldn't have seen coming, either.
-When dating Litchi, she takes you over to visit the Kaka village very so often, quickly earning a positive reputation as "boobie lady's mate." Their words, not yours. They don't really understand human terminology for relationships that well so that was their primitive understanding of it.
-One of the older ones, Tao, warned you of a squiggly, whatever the fuck that was. It apparently snuck up on the kittens and tried to eat them. It didn't sound like good news.
-You were exploring a more isolated part of the village in your tour around to get to know the place when you noticed a strange looking blob pulsating and moving around. Said blob quickly seemed to...stand up(?) and attack you. Naturally you ran as far as you could out of primal instinct.
-You found Litchi who seemed to be looking for you and an odd expression came onto her face as she caught sight of your chaser, but with her Boundary powers was able to fight and scare it away.
-As soon as she makes sure you're not injured, she takes you back to the clinic, having finished her business there with the elder and explains what the hell it was.
-It's a long, weird, explanation you don't fully grasp, but you understand the basics. It's an old coworker of hers that fell into the Boundary, which was apparently another realm where all seithr comes from, came back as that creature somehow, and she's trying to find a way to turn him back to normal.
-It was very clear that this was a goal that was extremely important to her, and from what she said, falling into the Boundary was not a fun experience. You couldn't really do anything to help directly, so the best thing you could do was offer your support.
-If and when you ever meet Arakune, or Roy, again, you do your best to make sure no one hurts him and let Litchi know you spotted him right away. You figured you could at least do that much if nothing else. You wanna meet him too if your girlfriend really cared about him this much. The real him, at least.

kiki and kaka would be eager to get to know kabru just bc theyd like to have someone to share their struggles with being short-lived adoptees to a long-lived race but i think the conversation would quickly get pretty uncomfortable bc its clear from how the flokes treat kiki and kaka that they see them as full grown adults who should only be a normal amount of differential to their elders while milsiril will never treat kabru as an adult
hed be like "fuck its possible? its possible for your adoptive long-lived parent to see you as a real adult and its here in front of me? uh i have to have a long overdue breakdown i think, lovely to see you ill write soon ❤️"

So... on the subject of relative age in Delicious in Dungeon and Mithrun and fandom "jokes" I've seen folks complaining about. General manga and anime spoilers for character ages and names in the manga and anime below the read more:
On the one hand, I do get that people are (or at least were, I see it less these days) mad at the "Mithrun grandpa/old man" jokes/comments because "it's just cause he's disabled" and "relatively speaking, he's the same age as Chilchuck, and no one treats Chilchuck like he's an old man/something about how Chilchuck dislikes being treated differently, mentally, for his presumed age/state of mind".
Okay, yes. Relatively speaking, sure. There's a conversation to be had about the intersection of ableism and ageism and how we often baby (in a patronizing way) disabled people and the elderly, and how we prioritize youth and treat middle-aged people like their lives are over. (And maybe something about how he has silver hair, I don't know). On a more positive note, I love that, relatively speaking, possibly by Elvish standards, Mithrun is at/near middle-age (elvish age of maturity is 80 years, their average lifespan is 400 years), because that's a fascinating bit of world-building.
...On the other hand (please rest your pitchforks momentarily), Mithrun is literally 185 years old, he is the fifth oldest cast member for characters whose age we know as of the English release of the Delicious in Dungeon World Guide: The Adventurer's Bible (after the Elf Queen, who's 372, the elder Flokes, who are in their 200s, and Milsiril, who's four years older than Mithrun), and he is the oldest member of his group of the Canaries (he's literally 103 years older than his subordinate, Pattadol, and still 39 years older than Cithis, the next oldest Canary after Mithrun). And speaking of Chilchuck, who is, yes, a married father of multiple adult children... and also 29. Mithrun has lived over six times as long as Chilchuck has. (All ages come from Delicious in Dungeon World Guide: The Adventurer's Bible; Sissel + the other Golden Country residents don't have listed ages there, though they're at least 1000 years old, and the other elves don't show up). Mithrun was in recovery after the central watchtower dungeon for longer than at least five characters have been alive.
Age chart:
Elf Queen: 372
Tansu Floke: 210
Yarn Floke: 204
Milsiril: 189
Mithrun: 185
Cithis: 149
Otta: 137
Fleki: 130
Lycion: 126
Senshi: 112
Noor: 98
Totan: 95
Pattadol: 82
Gillin: 79
Brigan: 78
Holm: 76
Fionil: 62
Namari: 61
Daya, Invar: 58
Marcille: 50
Maizuru: 41
Chilchuk: 29
Laios, Toshiro, Hien: 26
Rin: 24
Falin, Benichidori: 23
Kabru, Mikbell: 22
Zon: 21
Kaka, Kiki: 20
Kuro, Doni: 18
Izutsumi, Inutade: 17
Leed: 14
Mithrun is older than Senshi, older than Marcille, older than Kabru's entire party, including Holm and Daya, and older than the oldest human we have an established age for, Maizuru (again, the first Adventurer's Bible doesn't list the Golden Country resident ages, and Mithrun is definitely younger than them, but also they're generally minor characters except for Yaad and Delgal). He's older than Senshi's former dwarf comrades were when they died. He's also apparently older than Flamela, the vice commander of the Canaries (she's 170, at least according to the fanwiki, which is possibly going off the Complete Adventurer's Bible).
He is of course younger than Obrin, his older brother, whose age we don't know, but we do know that Mithrun is the younger brother. He is also obviously much younger than the demon.
I also find it interesting that people are jumping to the big assumption that he's middle-aged (relatively) due to... I guess just chopping the average lifespan of elves in half and assuming that's what they think middle-aged is? We know the average lifespan of elves and when they come to maturity. We do not know what elves think of Mithrun's age or what their concept of being middle-aged is, if they have one. He could be considered young by elf standards. He could be considered old. We have no idea.
Thinking about the conversation in Volume 8, Chapter 51: Dumplings 2, it's just about total/average lifespan and how near the characters are to dying by average race age, not middle age.
Chilchuck on p.37: "What's the difference between our actual ages and how old we look?"
Laios: "Well, dwarfs do live two and a half times as long as tall-men."
Chilchuck: "If our actual ages affect our looks, then... ...I'm curious about remaining life. Will we age at the same rate we did before? Or will it match our bodies now?"
They never get an answer for this. We do get rough estimates for what one race's age means to another by comparing Laios' actual age (26) to what Senshi thinks dwarf!Laios is, age-wise (his 60s), and both ages put him near but not at assumed middle-age for the respective race (for tall-men it would be 30, for dwarfs, 100), but otherwise they don't come to many conclusions about anything. They just guess and try to change back before something worse happens. Marcille doesn't even say anything in this conversation about elf culture. She just panics because half-foots live shorter lives.
I would not personally call Mithrun a grandpa and I don't particularly connect with jokes about it. By Elvish standards, and relatively speaking, he is perhaps not, arguably, old. ...But he's no spring chicken, either, despite how strong and fast he is. By the standards of most characters he is interacting with in the story, he is the oldest person in the room, by a substantial margin (heck, the age gap between Mithrun and Cithis is more years than Chilchuck has lived). That doesn't make him a grandpa, either. But I do find people getting mad about folks pointing out this literally 185-year-old being is you know... 185 years old... odd...? Especially when he's around all these by and large substantially younger people (younger people who are adults by and large!!!) for most of the story. Again, there's definitely a conversation to be had about the intersection of ageism and ableism, and how we treat people who are middle-aged as if they're elderly even when they're able-bodied, and about the way other characters in-universe treat him (though the one time I think his age is pointed out, it's about the stuff he knows, not to mock him for it; mostly people treat him badly due to his disabilities (e.g., Fleki with his aiming in chapter 55, Cithis in the Adventurer's Bible), not because of his age)... but it does feel very much like people are ignoring that he is honestly one of the oldest characters in the story, and not by dint of being the oldest youth, but because he's a character who has lived to be nearly 200 years old.
#mithrun#delicious in dungeon#dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi spoilers#I think there's also a conversation to be had about how Flamela talks down to him#I'm not saying grandpa joke away but people ignoring that he's literally 185 years old is kind of weird to me#he's actually not exactly middle-aged#he's slightly younger than that#he is by some definitions young#but remind me when we decided people nearly 200 years old weren't by some definitions old#I think there's interesting things to explore in a character who's lived to be that old#interacting with more races who don't get to live that long but who have different experiences#than pretending he's got roughly the same amount of lived experience as someone who's lived 6x less than he has#like he was in recovery nearly as long as Kabru is alive and none of his caretakers knew to try a foot massage?#not a single one of them?#no wonder it was only Milsiril showing up that led to him having a breakthrough#kui's manga is among other things about how different races experience things differently#and take away different lessons and understandings#and have different values#and navigating those differences can be hard but is worthwhile#like with senshi and the dwarves or idk every single mixed race party#what I find fascinating about the changeling age scene is how Chilchuck DOESN'T say everyone is the same with relative age#he notes the different ways races experience aging#races in dunmeshi have different biology#and this is a core part of Marcille's character arc#she is literally terrified of her loves ones dying and hates the unfairness of different race aging processes#one thing that's important to kabru's arc and the story in general is how knowledge can be lost and hidden#especially by older races who hoard it#and how this can be abused so easily whether it's the elves or the demon#and we learn a little over midway through the story that dungeon lords can be cured or rescued because Mithrun was one and he got away

Rereading/watching BBCT and rambling about things I find interesting or may've missed a first time part 5 featuring Taokaka and Litchi
Starting off with Tao there's not much to say. She's the fun goofy character and her story does well to relay that. That isn't to say she's one-dimensional as when she does have Arakune dead to rights she decides to let him go so long as he no longer bothers the Kakas. Partly because it's the right thing to do and partly because Litchi told her it isn't right to hurt people. Something he's never going to honor but it's the thought that counts. Her head maybe vacant ninety percent of the time but she is definitively a sweet girl.
Surprising that Kokonoe actually showed up to her in Kagatsuchi of all the story modes even if unintentionally. Even more so considering how patient and kind she was to Tao for as much as Kokonoe tends to be. No real condescension, concern for Tao getting in trouble with the NOL for not being in the Kaka Village underground, and willing to help her get back albeit also testing one of her devices on Tao to do so. Kokonoe being more friendly with Kakas in general considering they were the ones who saved her from Terumi after he killed Nine and Trinity wouldn't be a stretch.
I also wonder if the whole mecha Tagers and Taokakas are just supposed to be a one-off gag and shout-out to Robo-Ky or they were supposed to be something more. Nothing serious mind you but if BlazBlue was purportedly meant to be a RPG at one point then maybe they were supposed to be generic mob enemies. Or even just generic mobs that Kokonoe would throw at someone when she needs to distract someone like Azrael. Food for thought.
Litchi's episode is probably been one of my favorites so far but that could just be recency bias. It does a good job to flush out her character. She's kind, motherly, reasonable, a bit overbearing but in a "teacher who doesn't want her students to play to rough" sort a way. It also makes it clear she can be selfish. She wants to put down Arakune to relieve her own pain but she also wants to save him while knowing that in the meantime he's running rampant he's inevitably going to do more harm to others. All in all just a good episode to read.
The plight of the Kaka's population is made here through Elder Kaka Totokaka talking about it through Litchi. The population of the Kaka will never go past 100 under otherwise normal circumstances and in the event they can't naturally reproduce they will do so asexually. There's a concern by Toto on the fate of the Kaka on how they'll fade away to time and how they're forsaken by God. Not an unfounded concern because the Elder seems to understand that they will be victim to genetic stagnancy and decay. To paraphrase her words all the new children are just copies of those passed away and although they are a hundred they are essentially one organism. Eventually the parts of a organism will degrade and fail and the organism as a whole will die. Litchi thinks that through genetic alteration they can fix this but Totokaka thinks would just make them a further afront to nature. Which really begs the question of why the Kaka's are designed like this? Beastkin/Demihumans like Makoto who's kind were also made during the Dark War don't seem to have this problem and the population control factor seems to be an intentional design for the Kaka's.

Dearest mom,
Happy birthday..
Maa, everything runs well but still there’s empty space in my life since you and bapak gone. Kaka and ading are good. Ading is really good in her study. She’s in the 6th term now. Hopefully, she can graduate well really soon. She’s still be my best companion until now. Thanks for deciding to have another child after me. I don’t know how I’ll be if I have to live alone after both of you gone.
My life’s been good, Alhamdulillah. Yeah, I can’t say there isn’t trouble, but Alhamdulillah I can handle it well, so far 😁. I’ll be 30 next month, maa. Your elder child become definitely older 😄
Sometimes, I feel grateful for you’re not here for in my age now, people may ask you several questions that make you sad. You know it because of me who is still have no partner yet. Still single till now. Well, I know you are an ignorant for that stuff, anyway. But, I know that you must think it by yourself alone. My wish was you and bapak will be here when I finally found my Mr. Right. But, everything has been written to us.
I do hope you and bapak will have a great place there. I miss you both
I do
Till we meet again in jannah,
Insya Allah 🙂

Synopsis: The weaving princess and the cow herder can only meet at midnight on a certain day of a certain month.
Once upon a time, a Princess of the Heavens named Lala weaved extraordinary silks by the side of the Milky Way. These fabrics that Princess Lala made would become famed for their shine and twinkle, softness and durability.  The robes made from these silks would be worn by Emperors and Empresses.
However, Princess Lala’s weaving was not always quite so masterful at her task of weaving. It was only after she fell in love that she found her stride within her craft and that her weaving came upon the unparalleled beauty it was now renowned for throughout the galactic Heavens. Originally, her craft was considered with much pity.
Princess Lala, in general, really, was considered with much pity. She was seen as the lesser of the two heirs to her parents’ empire. Her elder brother, her twin, Prince Lolo was thought to be much more capable in any and every task available to either sibling. Arithmetic, poetry, flower arrangement: anything and everything that they put before their children, Prince Lolo exceeded every expectation with flying colours. Princess Lala was not quite so fortunate, her studies would pass miserably at best and fail dramatically at worst.
Disappointed by Princess Lala’s lack of capability at anything, her parents despaired. The young girl was unlikely to charm any potential lover or partner in front of her, no matter how arranged and firm the courting. Completely unlike her brother who had whomever he met eating out of his hands within minutes of meeting. So, until she could find at least one discipline she could show promise in, her parents had Princess Lala whisked away to the riverside of the Milky Way where she could choose one study to relentlessly pursue until she showed promise as a well rounded, courtesan princess.
Initially uncertain of what her artisanal calling could be, Princess Lala chose weaving at a whim. The Milky Way was gorgeous but it was cold so Princess Lala decided it might be best if she had some way to make warmer clothes or blankets so weaving it was. Thus, Princess Lala spent many rotations of the sun, moon, and earth weaving fabrics with only calligraphically written guides and study books to aid her craft.
Her first silks came out from her loom all wrong. The stitches were chunky and misshapen; the base materials, although exquisite in origin as they had been given to her by her parents, under the influence of Lala’s fingers, the fabrics changed drastically into weaved silks. Became coarse and uncomfortable and Princess Lala had no idea why her craft was so bland or cursed. She grew frustrated but she kept going despite her heated frustrations. She was determined to prove her parents wrong: she was just as worthy an heir and person as her older brother, the natural at learning and charisma. She was going to prove it.
Seasons came and went and by the end of the icier, colder months, Princess Lala could proudly wrap herself up in her fabrics that had increased in quality. They would keep her warm and comforted. They were still not yet gorgeous or otherwise special but at the very least, she had improved and now her work was of a respectably average quality.
Proud of her work, though she was scared her parents would dismiss it as meagre, she sent them a sample of it anyway by messenger. She sent her weaving samples with a letter which chronicled her work, effort, and improvement thus far - as well as other lamentations that she had with her exile. The Milky Way was lovely, forever twinkling in gorgeous hues of blue and silver, but it was lonely.
Princess Lala’s desire for a partner of her own had only grown in her solitude and so, she pled that her work thus far would allow her marriage. Her parents read her letter, her wording most empathetic, and reviewed her weaving. Her pleading did ring true, though her garments were plebeian at best, they were no longer the rags of her past so they relented.
Princess Lala was thrilled to receive the returning news that she would finally have a match made. She could hardly bring herself to weave after such good news but she did manage, keeping her eyes in the distance as she waited most eagerly for her first sight of her arranged marriage.
On her behalf, her parents contacted a young cow herder by the name of Sir Hikaru whose fields bordered the other side of the Milky Way in the warmer months. Sir Hikaru was more than overjoyed by the message and accepted immediately. She brought her herd to the other side of the grand river and then the two young ladies saw each other for the first time.
And it was love at first sight.
Princess Lala’s eyes widened and her breath was stolen away at first sight upon Sir Hikaru. Sir Hikaru flagged her down, waving exuberantly at her and Princess Lala was charmed immediately by such frank and earnest demeanour. For her sake, Sir Hikaru crossed the river of the Milky Way, calm and softly twinkling, with her herd of cows in tow.
She took Princess Lala’s hand, came down to her knee and gave Princess Lala’s knuckles a kiss. Princess Lala gasped, her pointed ears burning bright pink, at the seduction and it was sealed. Sir Hikaru and Princess Lala were to be engaged.
On the banks of the Milky Way river, Princess Lala and Sir Hikaru enjoyed hedonism and each other’s company. They had entire lives to catch up on, to say nothing of what they could look forward to in the future. They chatted and chatted and chatted, their warm, summery days were nothing but bliss.
Nothing but bliss and bliss alone causing both young ladies to neglect their disciplines. Princess Lala’s weaving fell to the wayside and Sir Hikaru’s cows were wandering the Heavens, trampling all the grass and stars underhoof. Both young ladies were utterly oblivious as they were so absorbed in their own little world consisting of just each other.
Something had to be done and it fell upon Princess Lala’s parents to put an end to the havoc that Sir Hikaru’s cows were herding - and of course to reel in their own daughter so she took her weaving seriously once more. This was a decree that had to be done in person, Emperor Toto decided and so, he and Empress Kaka appeared before the lovers on the river banks of the Milky Way with palanquins and more in tow.
Emperor Toto was furious from the second that he arrived. His furor was enough to disturb the Milky Way river - and of the course the two lovers as they lounged upon the starry sands of it. He gesticulated widely whilst he made his decree: the engagement was no more! Sir Hikaru and Princess Lala were forbidden to see each other from this instant onwards!
Princess Lala was distraught. She was certain that she had met her fated soulmate in the likes of Sir Hikaru, she could never go on were they to be parted. She begged and begged and begged her father to take back his word but he was stalwart. Up until the moment his wife touched his arm and showed sympathy unto their daughter.
Emperor Toto exhaled and bitterly retracted his decree. They were forbidden to see each other… except on Princess Lala’s birthday and only if she practiced her weaving every day leading up to and after her birthday. It wasn’t ideal, both Princess Lala and Sir Hikaru agreed with only a glance, but Sir Hikaru took it in stride. She conceded, hand on her heart, and was happy with something over nothing. With that, Princess Lala agreed to the decision as well.
Sir Hikaru’s head hung low but she farewelled Princess Lala. Until the promised day and with tears in both their eyes, they parted. Sir Hikaru rounded up her herd of rambunctious cattle, taking them over the Milky Way and Princess Lala returned to her weaving. With the incident settled, Princess Lala’s parents withdrew from the banks of the Milky Way.
Though they were apart, they still felt close. Exchanging taboo looks across the river, no matter the weather or season but even so, Sir Hikaru focused on her cows, allowing them to graze where they would not trouble the Heavens and Princess Lala continued to busy her hands with her weaving.
Yet she observed the most remarkable thing happening with the fabrics she was producing and the garments she was making. They were getting better and better. She could unload the burden of her griefed love unto them and somehow, that made them beautiful rather than destroyed them. So busy into her work, Princess Lala easily ignored the rotations of time, only becoming truly aware of it when she realised just how much time had passed.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, the eve of her birthday had arrived and she was ecstatic. She sent her parents a message of her excitement to reunite with her lover after so long - and of course samples of her best work yet at weaving. Then, she spent the rest of her time anxiously awaiting midnight and then she would be able to not just see her dear Sir Hikaru but touch her, kiss her, and truly convey the love that she had unto her once more.
   But the tides turned.
Princess Lala was helpless as she watched the calm, soothing Milky Way transform into something uncrossable. Its waves of starlight were choppy and tumultuous. It would be impossible for her to cross and Sir Hikaru was equally as stranded on the other side of the Milky Way. They were so close and yet so far. Princess Lala could do nothing but scream. Scream for help in vain.
But someone heard her plea for help.
From deep within the abyss of the Milky Way, a little blue jellyfish heard her and thus, surfaced amid the waves. Seeing the despairing and despondent expressions upon the faces of both Princess Lala and Sir Hikaru, the small creature knew that he had to help and so, called upon even more to help.
Jellyfish after jellyfish, plump and ballooning, surfaced on the waves of the Milky Way. Together their plumes formed a bridge that bounced with every wave and though it scared her, Princess Lala crossed upon their crowns, her uncertain amble becoming more and more courageous the closer she got to Sir Hikaru before being able to launch herself at her lover. Sir Hikaru squealed with laughter as she embraced her lover, twirling her around and coming to a rambling halt.
Her pink eyes were soft and fond. Princess Lala buried her face in Sir Hikaru’s breast, she cried tears of gratitude and disbelief. There was no home truer or lovelier than that of her lover. The wait had been worth it and though they only had a handful of hours together, from one midnight to another, it felt like a blessed eternity between them both.
And so, even though they only had one, fateful day per year, Princess Lala and Sir Hikaru lived happily ever after.

SakumoWeek 2020 Day3 Birthday/Celebration
I haven’t finished my pieces for Day 1 or 2 for @sakumoweek yet, but I had to post for today! This is set in my semi-self-insert/OC fic AU, OC’s name is Kiyo. This is some good-ole G rated writing, that I hope is both cute and funny at the appropriate times!
*warning: LONG POST* this got way longer than intended (Day 1 and 2 have too) so I will probably set these up on AO3, but for now, have them here:
Kakashi stared down his father as they all sat eating breakfast. Sakumo was trying to hide his face of confused amusement behind his cup of tea, but if the third party at the table was anything to go by, he wasn’t hiding it very well.
It wasn’t a glare, per say, but Kakashi was staring at him with such intense determination, he wondered if they were going to have another argument about age-appropriate jutsu. (Kakashi was still too young to practice the Clan’s Summoning Jutsu, and they had gone back and forth for days. Maybe he needed to come up with something to teach him in the meantime…)
“Tou-san.”
Sakumo gave his son his full, and obvious, attention. Kakashi had finished his meal, but in his current focus hadn’t seemed to realize that his face was speckled with stray food.
“Yes? Kakashi?”
“Don’t you need to leave?”
Both adults at the table almost spit out their tea at Kakashi’s very blunt, and very rude, demand.
“Ah… No? I don’t believe I have anywhere I need to be..?”
“I’m pretty sure you said you had to go train today,” Kakashi’s eyes bore into him, “You should hurry up and leave.”
This time Sakumo couldn’t stop the choked sound that escaped him. Kiyo-san was glancing between them, horrified. He caught her eye and gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile, but it came off pleading. Sakumo looked back at Kakashi to get a better gage. Yes, it wasn’t quite a glare, his face was set in stoic determination that seemed out of place on a four-year-old, but now he could see there was an excited glint in those dark grey eyes as well. What could he possibly… Ah. Sakumo hid his grin behind a hand and gave a cough for good measure.
“That’s right! I had completely forgotten, thank you for the reminder Kakashi,” he stood up from the table and inclined his head at the bewildered woman across from him, “Thank you for the delicious meal, Kiyo-san, but it appears I must be off.”
She made a small noise of confirmation, probably out of habit, because she was looking at him in equal parts like she wanted to make sure he was okay and also wanted to ask for clarification on the situation. He gave her another smile, this one far more confident than the last, and hoped that would be enough to quell her uncertainties. He moved to the door to put on his sandals.
“Well, I’ll be off then!”
He stepped out the door and walked down the street until he was sure Kakashi would be properly convinced, before doubling back and sneaking back into his own house to spy on his son.
“-can’t speak to your father like that!”
Ah, Kiyo-san was lecturing poor Kakashi. Sakumo watched from his hiding spot as she scolded Kakashi while they cleared the table, but she didn’t look angry so much as exasperated. It was nice to know he wasn’t the only one.
“He was taking too long,” Kakashi attempted to shrug off Kiyo’s naggings.
“Your father has every right to sit and enjoy his breakfast, Kakashi-chan,” she gave a put-out sigh, “it is his birthday today, after all. How often do you think it is that he gets to be in the village for that?”
“That’s the point!” Kakashi shouted at her as she began to wash dishes.
If the way she side-eyed him was anything to go by, she wasn’t impressed by his revelation.
“Oh? So your plan for your father’s birthday is to chase him off?”
Kakashi puffed up his cheeks, and this time he did glare.
“Tou-san can’t be here because you have to help me bake a surprise cake!”
At this, Kiyo paused and looked at Kakashi curiously.
“But why did you chase him out so early?”
“So that we can have time to make it, of course!” Kakashi folded his arms with a huff.
“Kakashi-chan… How long do you think it takes to make a cake?”
He looked at her with such an expression of sage wisdom, Sakumo almost blew his cover with a laugh at the response of, “At least 5 hours. Plus! We have to go buy strawberries!”
Kiyo-san shook her head, she looked like she was trying not to smile, “We need to buy more than just strawberries, Kakashi-chan. Now, go get your stepping stool so you can help me by drying the dishes, then I’ll help you put them away.”
“I can put them away on my own,” he grumbled as he set the stool next to Kiyo-san.
“Ah, but I feel better when I get to help you,” this time she gave him a blinding smile, “you have to let me earn my keep, Kakashi-chan.”
*
Sakumo followed the two of them through the market streets at a safe distance, wearing a Henge. As long as he stayed far enough away, Kakashi wouldn’t be able to smell him, and if he enhanced his hearing while focusing on their voices, he’d be able to hear them just fine. He wasn’t surprised when Kiyo-san went straight to the stand that she had used to work at, owned by the family who had taken her in when her village had been destroyed.
“Ako-chan! Kiki-chan!” Kiyo smiled at the sisters, “How lucky that I get to see you both today!”
“Kiyo-san, it’s so good to see you!” the older sister, Ako, smiled back.
“Eh? Is this our little baby Kaka-chan?” Kiki’s toothy grin said that she knew her words would cause Kakashi to puff up in indignation.
“I’m not a baby! And don’t call me that!”
“My, my, what’s this?” Kiki came out from behind the stand and crouched down to squish Kakashi’s cheeks, “Kaka-chan, don’t be so mean to your Kiki-nee-chan! Be nice! Be nice!” She punctuated each sentence with a new squeeze of Kakashi’s face, ignoring his hands that batted at her arms.
Sakumo hide his grin behind a hand. Kakashi could very easily get away or remove the young civilian’s hands if he really wanted to. That he was choosing not to was either because the lessons Sakumo had been trying to drill into him about being mindful of his current strength with other children and civilians were actually taking hold, or he actually enjoyed the attention his ‘Kiki-nee-chan’ was giving him. Either answer made Sakumo happy.
Kiyo-san continued chatting with the elder sister while picking out strawberries from the pallet Ako-san had gone and gotten from the storage room in the building behind the stand. Technically, strawberries were out of season in the area, but the Yamamoto family had farms all over the Country of Fire, so it wasn’t unusual for their stall to have out of season produce. Eventually, Kiki-san relented her assault on Kakashi’s pride with a pat on the head and went back to her usual station, joining the chatter between the women. Sakumo watched as Kakashi stared at Kiyo-san, growing more and more impatient.
“Stop talking! We have to hurry up and go home to bake the cake!” Kakashi seemed to have finally had enough.
Kiyo-san stared down at him with an unimpressed look. This appeared to be her default expression for Kakashi’s rudeness. Sakumo watched her intently, having not realized until just now that he didn’t often get to see Kakashi and Kiyo-san interact on their own.
“Hm, Kakashi, could it be…you’re allergic to manners?”
Kakashi sputtered in outrage at Kiyo-san’s question, before pointing, rudely, at her, “I have manners! You just spend too much time talking!”
The unimpressed look stayed, but it was obvious Kiyo-san was trying not to grin, “If you say so, Kakashi-chan. Ah, but you are right that we should be moving along so we can get the rest of our shopping done.”
“What?” Kakashi looked at her suspiciously, “What other shopping?”
“Kakashi-chan, I don’t normally keep cake flour at your house, you’ve never wanted me to make cake before. Plus, I looked, and you don’t own a cake pan.”
“Oh? What’s the occasion?” Ako-san asked, “Is Kakashi finally developing a taste for sweets?”
Kakashi made his ‘yuck’ face as Kiyo-san chuckled, “No, I don’t think he’ll ever enjoy sweets like that. It’s Hatake-san’s birthday today, and Kakashi-chan would like to make his father a cake.”
“Eh, that’s so nice of you Kakashi-chan,” Ako-san gave Kakashi a smile while Kiki-san made eye contact with Kiyo-san and wiggled her eyebrows up and down.
Kiyo blushed at Kiki-chan’s suggestive look and shot her a glare. Kakashi had also noticed the exchange and glared at Kiki.
“Well, then we definitely have to go. Now.”
Sakumo watched as Kiyo-san said goodbye to the sisters, and instructed Kakashi to do the same, before Kakashi practically dragged Kiyo-san down the street to buy flour and a pan. He continued to tail them as they argued at each stop Kiyo-san made, because she “might as well pick up something for dinner tonight while they were out,” and she had “such a convenient helper at hand!”
To be fair, it was mostly Kakashi arguing and Kiyo-san alternating between explaining her reasonings and sending back quips to fluster Kakashi. She didn’t seem to really mind when Kakashi got surly, and once or twice he caught her disguising a laugh as a cough when Kakashi said something that would have made Sakumo sweat in embarrassment in such a public setting. Kiyo-san had loaded both her arms and Kakashi’s before they headed back to the house. Sakumo took to the rooftops to follow them.
He watched them sort and put dinner items, and things that needed to keep cool, away for later, before getting started on the cake making process. As Sakumo watched Kiyo-san explain each step and coach Kakashi through the process, taking over when the boy relented and asked her to, more concerned about his Tou-san’s cake being perfect than trying to make a point by doing it himself, Sakumo found his heart melting into goo and flipping somersaults simultaneously. He smiled broadly, and warmly, as he watched them from the concealed hiding spot in the “attic” that didn’t officially exist in the house plans. Every house built by shinobi or housed a shinobi had at least one secret “room” that allowed an easy hiding spot to view the home. In the Hatake house, it was false ceiling that had multiple peek holes, normally covered, that allowed observation of any room or area of the house.
Normally it would only be used if an intruder or enemy was in the house, but Sakumo found it provided one of the best views of what he considered to be domestic bliss today. Maybe this would become a little bit of a thing? He chuckled quietly as Kiyo-san scolded his son for attempting to stick his hand in the almost finished cake batter, and Kakashi sassing her back. He was openly baffled, but still amused, as he watched Kiyo-san worry and attempt not to intervene when Kakashi declared he would prepare the strawberries and began cutting off the tops and slicing them. Sakumo mused that even though she’d been around them since Kakashi was an infant, she was still very much a civilian. He did appreciate how hard she worked to not push her civilian limits onto Kakashi, and allow him to go at his own pace with most things. She also made sure to keep track of Kakashi’s training, and made sure she knew what his limits were, and what was off-limits as instructed by Hitomi or himself. She always seemed to be trying to do her best for Kakashi, and it always made his heart swell.
Kiyo-san helped Kakashi put the cake pan, filled with batter, into the hot oven, “And there we go! Now you can set the timer for 30 minutes,” she handed the kitchen wind-up timer to Kakashi.
“What!” Kakashi looked at Kiyo-san like she was crazy, but did take the timer from her, “I thought cakes took hours to bake!”
“Now do you see why it was so silly of you to chase your father out of the house so early?”
No one could see him, and they didn’t know he had been watching them since the beginning, but he still felt mildly ashamed for not actually leaving, and then spying on them. Kakashi’s face fell a bit, and he looked like he felt genuinely guilty now.
“Not to worry though, Kakashi-chan,” Kiyo-san smiled and didn’t so much ruffle his wild hair as card her fingers smoothly through it, “You must have amazing baking instincts, because sponge cake always tastes better the longer it sits! It’s actually best to make it the day before you intend to eat it!”
“Eh!?”
She laughed at his confused face, “So instead of being too early, you’re actually late!”
Sakumo didn’t understand why she laughed even harder after she said that, and Kakashi also looked to be a little worried for her sanity. Finally, Kiyo-san got herself under control.
“Anyway, now we use this time to make the frosting.”
“No need!” Kakashi held up his hands at Kiyo-san, and retrieved a small container to present to her.
“What…where did you get this? Is this pre-made frosting?” Kiyo-san examined the label closely, “I didn’t know they made this…”
“We got it at the store.”
Kiyo-san eyed Kakashi suspiciously, “I did not put this in the basket.”
Sakumo had actually witnessed Kakashi slip in with the other items while Kiyo-san wasn’t paying attention, but he had assumed she’d seen it when paying. Truly, Sakumo thought, a civilian.
“You should pay more attention to what you’re buying,” Kakashi folded his arms behind his head and looked away.
“I should, should I?” Kiyo-san looked back at the container of frosting, “Kakashi, I don’t think you’ll even like this. And I already bought cream…”
“I can eat it!” Kakashi scowled.
Kiyo-san opened the container, scooped some of it’s contents out with her finger, and popped it into Kakashi’s mouth. His face went from surprised, to nervousness, and then queasy. Kiyo-san watched him, with her fists on her hips and a knowing look, as he opened his mouth to let his frosting covered tongue hang out, like a puppy who’d just bitten into something bitter. She stopped him from trying to use his arm to wipe the frosting out of his mouth, getting a kitchen towel to do the job instead, and grabbed his stepping stool before instructing his to rinse his mouth out in the sink if needed.
“Really, Kakashi-chan, I don’t understand your aversion to sweetness,” she said with a sigh while watching Kakashi rinse his mouth, “but since you know you don’t like these things, why are you so intent on forcing yourself to eat them today?”
Kakashi pulled away from the water and accepted another kitchen towel to wipe his mouth, “because Tou-san likes things like strawberries and mochi, and it’s his birthday and he should have cake, and I want to eat cake with him so he'll be happy.”
Sakumo definitely felt parental tears over Kakashi’s wish. Kiyo-san’s eyes soften and she made sure she was at eye-level with his son.
“Your father is going to be so happy and proud that you made him a cake today, and he’s going to feel your love for him when he eats this cake. And yet, I can say with certainty that you’re father will not want you to make yourself sick by trying to eat it with him,” she rested a hand on Kakashi’s head and aimed a warm grin at him, “So, how about we make some whipped cream icing, and see if you can handle that better, instead? And if you decide you have to eat the cake with your father, we’ll make sure it’s a small piece, okay?”
Kakashi nodded with renewed determination.
“Excellent. Now, can you get out some clean bowls?”
Sakumo watched the hilarity of his son learning how to make whipped cream, and Kiyo-san face when Kakashi offered her a senbon to poke the cake to see if it was finished. It was a delightful process to watch, and finally, they finished the cake.
“When do you think Tou-san will be back?”
“Hm… You never did tell him when to be home, did you,” she pretended to look thoughtful while Kakashi agonized over this observation, “Well, I won’t worry. I bet your father will show up at exactly the right time.”
Sakumo froze, then narrowed his eyes. Did she know? Had Kiyo-san actually been aware of his spying this entire time? He watched her carefully as she suggested Kakashi go wash up, and that she’d have a surprise for him when he came back. He watched as she pulled out two books she’d gotten earlier while distracting Kakashi by teasing him about something silly. One was a book about cooking, and the other was a book about baking.
“At least, I hope he will,” Sakumo heard her murmur to herself, “he’s not supposed to be training while he’s recovering, so, if I can trust that he’s not an idiot, then he didn’t really go out to train,” she scoffed quietly, “he’s a ninja, so he’s probably been watch us this whole time. They’re so weird… Probably watching right now…”
Sakumo watched as Kiyo-san was the one to freeze this time. Her head whipping back and forth as if he was going to appear next to her in the kitchen, but she didn’t look up.
“Ah, don’t be ridiculous,” she shook her head, “I’m becoming just as paranoid as the rest of them.”
Sakumo smiled, and kept smiling when she handed the books over to Kakashi, who immediately began parsing through one. He might as well wait until they finished cooking dinner, then show up 15 minutes after.
*
Sakumo timed it perfectly so he was coming through the front door exactly 15 minutes after the food was ready. He called out his greeting and heard Kakashi rush towards him.
“Welcome back!” Kakashi shouted in his excitement.
Kakashi ran back to the table, while Sakumo followed him at a more normal pace. Kiyo-san was pouring some tea when she saw him and smiled.
“Welcome back, Hatake-san.”
“I’m home,” Sakumo grinned at both of them, “and I’m hungry. Let’s eat!”
Dinner went rather smoothly, but it was obvious that Kakashi was solely focused on surprising his Tou-san with the cake. He snatched Sakumo’s plate away as soon as he had finished, which made Sakumo laugh.
“You seem awfully energetic today, Kakashi.”
He was so busy rushing all the dishes back into the kitchen, he didn’t appear to register his Tou-san’s comment. When all the plates were cleared, Kakashi almost tackled Sakumo in his eagerness.
“I have a surprise for you Tou-san!”
“Do you really?” Sakumo asked with the perfect amount of curiosity.
Kakashi nodded before hurrying back towards the kitchen.
“Do you need-”
“No!” Kakashi didn’t wait for Kiyo-san to finish her question before making it very clear he wanted to give the cake to his Tou-san himself.
Kiyo-san gave an abortive twitch before settling both her hands around her teacup, “Just remember to be careful! Don’t rush and mess up all your hard work!”
Kakashi’s features hardened into intense determination when Kiyo-san’s words sunk in, and he finished his journey to the kitchen with purposeful strides. With extreme care, he carried the cake to the table, and gingerly set it before Sakumo. Once his hands left the plate, he bounced twice on the balls of his feet.
“Happy Birthday, Tou-san!”
Sakumo acted perfectly surprised, and thoroughly enrapt by Kakashi’s detailing of the creation of the cake. He did catch Kiyo-san looking at him suspiciously for a moment, but it was gone quickly. The cake was cut and served, Kakashi’s piece being much smaller and ultimately left unfinished.
“This has been the best birthday I’ve had so far,” Sakumo ruffled Kakashi’s hair, “you make me very happy, Kakashi.”
The boy positively beamed at his Tou-san’s words, and quickly launched into another detailed story, this time about his new books, showing them off and explaining what he’d found in them so far. Sakumo watched him fondly, suddenly aware that in a couple weeks Kakashi would be entering the Academy, and in a few days, he was due for a recheck visit at the hospital to determine if he was in good enough condition to be sent back out on missions. This was probably going to be their last bit of quality time for a while. Sakumo glanced up at Kiyo-san and saw she was still smiling, but her eyes held a wistful sadness. Ah, so she realized it too.
“Next year, I’m going to make your cake all by myself!” Kakashi exclaimed proudly.
Sakumo beamed at Kakashi, “I look forward to many more wonderful birthdays.”

Kaka-shi- restaurant AU (+/- bonus KakaGai)
Kakatenz- in the Uchiha Kakashi AU (+/- bonus KakaShi)
It is very long since there are two so i am going to put it under the cut so people don’t end up with just this ridiculously long post on their dash
i apologize XD
Restaurant Au (KakaShi)
·        Kakashi owns a nice little Sushi shop handed down to him by his father.
·        He asks his best friend/boyfriend Gai to help him with the place, knowing that Gai is better with customers and publicity.
·        Shisui is hired as a Sushi chief and is easily one of their best, as well as being very showy and popular with their guests.
·        Only a week after Shisui starts working there, people begin to come in just so they can see him make Sushi because he is so talented at putting on a show and making some of the best sushi they have ever tasted.
·        Kakashi doesn’t go to the store on a schedule and he never informs anyone when he’s going to come in. He usually just goes in to do paper work that he can’t do at home or to check in and make sure that everything is clean and health and safety codes are being followed. Gai, thankfully, is already pretty hard core on those as are all of their managers so Kakashi rarely ever has anything to correct.
·        One day he comes in during Shisui’s shift. Shisui hasn’t met him before and thinks that Gai is the only owner, so he thinks nothing of flirting with the cute business man who sat in from of him for food. It’s a dead hour so reservations are not needed to sit in front of Shisui.
·        Shisui spends half an hour flirting with Kakashi when Gai comes out of the back and spots him. He’s immediately at Kakashi’s side, getting in real close and flirting as though he doesn’t have someone standing directly in front of them, making Kakashi blush like crazy.
·        Suddenly Shisui feels very awkward, especially when Kakashi and Gai start talking about the business. Clearly he has missed something.
·        He is especially confused when Gai leaves for a moment and Kakashi turns back to him and continues flirting with him as if he wasn’t just being cute with his boss.
·        Not wanting to make things awkward with his boss, Shisui excuses himself to do something else and watches from afar as Gai returns and keeps talking to the cutie.
·        It’s only two weeks before he see’s the cute guy again, this time walking in with Gai in time for the place to open.
·        What confuses Shisui this time is that they seem to be talking about a date, but between Gai and someone named ‘Genma’
·        Kakashi takes a seat in front of Shisui again to do some work while Gai heads into the back.
·        Shisui, being a nosy shit with a lot of questions he really needs answers to, decides to ask Kakashi is he’s dating anyone.
·        Kakashi huffs at that and reply’s “of course I am. I’ve been with Gai for three years”
·        Shisui’s sad about that answer for a second before becoming really confussed. “but didn’t he just say he had a date with someone named Genma?”
·        Shisui can’t tell if Kakashi is actually smiling under his mask, but it seems like he is. He legit looks like he might be smiling. It take’s a while for Kakashi to explain, but as he’s listening to Kakashi telling him about their polyamorous relationship and how Gai likes to go on dates with his old classmate and sometimes even sleep with him, Shisui sort of starts to understand.
·        Which leaves him with one more question.
·        “if he’s dating other people does that mean…”
·        Kakashi laughs before Shisui can finish his question. “You didn’t think I was flirting with you to be a tease, did you?”
·        That’s how Shisui finds out that Gai has plans with his other boyfriend that evening, making Kakashi’s evening completely free. And he is A-Ok with that since he didn’t have any other plans for his evening.
·        Shisui ends up going on a date with Kakashi to the local BBQ place (since neither of them wants to be going on a date to the place Kakashi Owns and Shisui works) and talking about everything. Shisui even ends up telling Kakashi that he wants to open up a café of his own with his Cousin Itachi, he just has to save up enough Money. Kakashi offers to help him with any paper work or business understanding he needs help with, which is how Shisui ends up learning that Kakashi co-owns the sushi shop with Gai and is in fact the one it was handed down to.
·        They end up having a great night, and Kakashi even takes Shisui for a walk down towards the river while they keep talking.
·        Shisui’s still a little iffy about dating his boss, but Kakashi assures him that Gai takes care of everything within the store. Kakashi has no control over who gets a job, promotion or fired. It’s all up to Gai and the managers he picked. Kakashi just take’s care of finances and all of the background paperwork. It’s why the shop is so well run. The jobs are split perfectly based on who’s best at what, and Gai is definitely best at people.
·        Kakashi starts making more of a habit of coming in to visit Shisui on his shifts and flirting with him, sometimes even making date plans with him around Gai’s dates with Genma.
 Uchiha Kakashi (Kakayama)
·        Kakashi has had his Sharingan since he was five years old. Only Hiruzen and Minato know about it. Hiruzen because he’s one of the first to show up to the scene when help is called and the only one Kakashi looks at directly rather than trying to hide his eyes, Minato because he is made aware of this fact as soon as Hiruzen decides to make him Kakashi’s Sensei.
·        Danzo doesn’t find out until years later, shortly after Minato’s death when he tries to take Kakashi into Root. When Kakashi turns his back on him and tells Hiruzen what Danzo is planning, he ends up facing Tenzo just like in Canon. Except this time he activates his sharingan in order to dodge the Mokuton users attacks much easier.
·        When Kinoe tells Danzo of this, Danzo is furious to find out there was an Uchiha with the Sharingan activated that he did not know about. He could have gotten to Kakashi sooner if he had known and used him.
·        He continues to try and get Kakashi to join Root, Using Kinoe a lot of the time because he immediately see’s that Kakashi has a fondness for the younger kid.
·        This…does not work the way he wanted. Kinoe ends up forming a bond with Kakashi that he’s not supposed to, and when Danzo gets fed up with Kakashi refusing to join Root and orders Kinoe to kill him, he’s not so ok with the idea. Kakashi’s not known as the friend killer here because his sharingan actually allowed him to see Rin’s movements fast enough to dodge (where as obito’s eye was still new to him and he was still learning how to use it) So Danzo doesn’t really have a reason for Kinoe to follow orders other than ‘I said so’ which doesn’t work well.
·        Just like in Canon, Kakashi helps Kinoe escape Danzo’s influence and find a place for himself in the world.
·        Kakashi and Tenzo become Anbu’s most effective team, becoming known as the top shinobi in Anbu and Hiruzen’s favorites to send out on some of the hardest missions. Because of this, they spend a lot of time together.
·        This leads to them both developing feelings for each other as they get older, Tenzo developing feelings for Kakashi when he’s about 14 which go from crush to respect to full blown love by the time he’s 20. Kakashi on the other hand doesn’t really think of Tenzo as more than a friend until he’s a friend and Tenzo takes a really bad hit for him on a mission. When Kakashi demands to know why he would do that, Tenzo just smiles and tells him that he loves him and because of that he would die to protect him.
·        Kakashi, being a demiromantic adorable, starts to realize slowly that his bond with Tenzo is so deep and strong that he really can’t imagine his life without tenzo and that slowly starts to develop into romantic feelings.
·        Kakashi hasn’t been able to imagine his life without Tenzo for years of course. He adores Tenzo and trusts him completely, but suddenly it feels different. Not only can he not lose Tenzo, nights without Tenzo start becoming hard to deal with, missions away from Tenzo feel empty. He hates not having Tenzo around.
·        By the time the Uchiha Massacure is about to happen, Tenzo and Kakashi are actually starting to settle in together as a couple.
·        It’s a little difficult for them because neither of them have ever been good with emotions for different reasons so they definitely have their issues, but somehow they manage to make it work and neither of them could imagine their life without the other.
·        During the massacre, Itachi is informed that in order to meet his end of the deal he has to kill Kakashi. Itachi thinks this would be easy, but when facing Kakashi finds he can’t do it and instead asks Kakashi to kill him for what he has done and to take his and Shisui’s eyes and deal with Danzo. (Idea given to me by @itachi-uchiha-deserved-better )Kakashi does this, accepting the nickname of ‘friend killer’ from the village because he knows that’s exactly what he is.
·        After the Uchiha massacure, Kakashi is pulled out of Anbu and made a Jonin Sensei, though he still doesn’t get a team for a few years. During this time, him and Tenzo find it’s harder to spend time together because Tenzo is now a team Captain going on Anbu missions, while Kakashi is going on completely different missions. Kakashi’s guilt from killing Itachi doesn’t make any of this any easier, and in fact makes him push people away from him once again.
·        He does keep his end of the deal with Itachi though, which involves finally taking Danzo down. He plans to do this alone, but Tenzo refuses to let him when he finds out what Kakashi is going to do.
·        The two of them face off against Danzo, and after a long very difficult battle, finally manage to kill him. Kakashi knows that this could come with the result of being branded traitors for the murder of an elder, but Kakashi also knows why Itachi did what he did and he tells Tenzo as much.
·        When Hiruzen tries to punish them, Kakashi make’s it known that he’s aware of Hiruzen’s role in the Uchiha massacure and that he can make sure everyone in the village knows. After all, who’s not going to trust the man who killed Itachi Uchiha, vs the one who ordered him to slaughter his own clan? Kakashi may be a friend killer, but that friend was a traitor in the villages eyes.
·        Hiruzen ends up having to step down from his post as Hokage, taking his elders with him as Kakashi doesn’t want that corruption anywhere near the new Hokage, and immidiatly Kakashi sends Tenzo out with Gai to locate Lady Tsunade. After hearing what has happened, Tsunade reluctantly agrees to take the job and heads to Konoha with Tenzo and Gai.
·        With Tsunade in place as hokage, Kakashi steps down from his spot in Anbu and decides for himself to become a Jonin Sensei, wanting to be there when Itachi’s little brother becomes a Genin so that Sasuke can be trained by an Uchiha.
·        Kakashi ends up taking team 7 a few years later and things become even more strained since he’s always going out on missions with them. The D missions only last a few months thanks to Naruto being an impatient demanding little shit who ends up landing them a mission way too overranked for a bunch of new genin (though honestly, that’s definitely on the guy who requested the mission)
·        When Kakashi comes back from the land of the waves he is in a really bad place. He ends up going to Tenzo’s room at the Anbu barreks and waiting for him to get home, which is possible since Sasuke is in the hospital healing after the fight. When Tenzo does get home, Kakashi is a mess and Tenzo can barley get through to him when Kakashi starts apologizing because he just can’t get out of his mind. Tenzo sits with him all night and listens to him tell him all about the land of waves mission and Zabuza and Haku. Tenzo decides that day that maybe Kakashi needs someone with him to help train the kids and take care of himself, and decides to approach Lady Tsunade in the morning.
·        She has no problem with Tenzo’s request, and instantly takes him out of Anbu and puts him on team 7 with Kakashi. This allows him to be there in case anything happens with Naruto, help Sakura with her training and realizing that she has the ability to use Mokuton, and to make sure that Kakashi is alright.
·        Kakashi and Tenzo never tell Sasuke what happened to Itachi. He knows that his brother killed the clan and died shortly after, but neither of them are brave enough to tell him how Itachi died, and Tenzo respects the fact that Kakashi really doesn’t want his student to know him as the man who murdered his big brother.

Title: Mirrors Fandom: Naruto Chapter: 2 - Light Word count: 1497 Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort Characters: Haruno Sakura, Hatake Kakashi Relationships: Sakura/Kakashi Triggers(s): PTSD, Angst Rating: T Additional Tags: Kakashi-centric, Post-war, tags are incomplete due to plot reasons Summary: Returning to life after war is never easy and despite how Kakashi tries, there’s always that sense of unease and some things are just harder to let go than others.
Ao3
Kakashi didn’t want to be the Hokage. He had been tired after the war, some days too exhausted to even get up. There were plenty of better candidates than him, he had insisted, but Tsunade was too tired to wait for Naruto to take the hat and there were none as well-respected as he was.
Kakashi couldn’t blame her for the way things went during the war.
It had been all sorts of fuckery. Raising their dead and forcing them to kill them. At least he had Sakura with him. Curling up with Sakura in his arms had been his anchor through the mess. Sakura wanted a wall of plants when they got their own apartment. Plants made people feel better, she said.
It had been the first thing Kakashi had done when he got home was to get a wall of flowers and ivy. It had been what Sakura wanted. On the nights that he can’t sleep, he would stare at them, reciting their names. He knows their names and meanings all by heart.
He stamps the paperwork aggressively, barely reading the hospital budget reports.
“So as I was saying,” she says as she repeats herself for the third time, shifting to lean on her left leg. “Kakashi! Are you listening to me?” She slams her hands on his table.
“Yes, yes. You’re changing the new hospital policy and because of the change of the hospital policy, also with the uptick of mental health exams failing, the crotchety old woman has been blocking your policies from effectively working. They’re all in the report, I read the reports, Sakura-chan.” He presses his fingers on his nose bridge and wonders if bringing plants into his office would help him feel better too.
He didn’t think the plants helped. Deep down he knew nothing would help with the gaping emptiness in his chest. The nightmares never stop, even with the pack sleeping around him.
Not when he’s living a nightmare.
“That old woman is going to come to try to get you to dismiss my policy. You have to make sure you don’t.” Her knuckles tightened around her folders. “You can’t, okay?”
How many people they could save a fate like his father, she had told him previously.
If such a policy had been run rigorously during his father’s time, maybe his father might still be alive.
“I’ll do my best,” he creased an eye at her.
He could only do his best for her because he hadn’t been good enough.
Kakashi will never be good enough.
“And the children’s hospital. Don’t forget the children’s hospital,” she reminds him.
“I won’t.”
He will never forget it how her voice rose and dipped in the night, lulling him to sleep on her plans for the hospital, how many children could have been saved if they had one specialising it and that for all Konoha talked about the will of fire, it never seemed to care for the healthcare of their people.
It was Sakura’s way of anchoring herself, a way of telling herself that there was going to be more than the war and the killing. Especially in the last year where the fighting had turned from bloody to downright brutal.
“I promise to talk to Shizune about finding a good plot for it,” he says. Shizune would know what to find and if there isn’t a perfect one, he could always get Yamato to make one. His mokuten had improved after spending the war years with Shodaime.
“Didn’t Sasuke donate the rest of the Uchiha land to Konoha?” Sakura cocks her head, thinking. “Oh but it’s so far out. It’d be troublesome to bring a sick or injured kid there. We should put it in the middle of Konoha...”
Kakashi watches her gesticulate as she spoke. Sakura had kept her hair short. Shampoo had been in short supply near the end of the war, so Sakura shorn off most of her hair.
Back to basics she said then.
He missed tangling his hands in her hair as he kissed her breathless, missed laying on her chest, hearing her heart beat.
Any time now, Kakashi is ready to wake up from this horrible nightmare.
He missed the way the sunset filtered through her hair, turning it to almost luminous red.
“Stop daydreaming, Kakashi.” Sakura pokes him on his head. “Come on, it’s almost dinner now. What do you want for dinner?”
He blinks at her, dazed and she puffs her cheeks up, looking almost disappointed at him. “Don’t tell me you’re not hungry again.”
Kakashi slumps in his seat. If he skipped another meal, Sakura would be angry. Angry Sakura would led up Naruto disturbing him. “Fine… only if it’s mackerel.”
She sighs. “You and your mackerel. Don’t you ever get sick of it?”
“But Sakura-channnn… it’s comfort food.”
She rolls her eyes. “Well I’m getting pretty sick of it. So only if you get anmitsu on your way home.”
He smiles and she slaps her forehead. “Shit! Totally forgot I need to see Sai.” Sliding the window open, she hops out onto the ledge. “I’ll see you at dinner! Don’t forget the anmitsu!”
“I won’t,” he murmurs as the door swings open with Shikamaru looking frustrated. “Shikamaru, I was just about to leave.”
Shikamaru mutters unflattering words under his breath. “And I would have agreed with that seeing you’ve been staying overnight the last few days, but the… Elders are very insistent on seeing you… about Sakura’s policies.”
“Shodaime’s saggy balls.”
 ✥.✥.✥
It’s late evening by the time he dismisses the Elders. It’s probably time for them to retire, he thinks. The world changes and they must change with it. It’s clear that the Elders aren’t ready to change yet. At their age, he doubts they’d ever change. Tsunade and Chouza would be good replacements.
“Hey Kaka-sensei!” Naruto waves at him from down the shops and bounded over to him like an over eager puppy. Behind him, Kakashi could see Hinata catching up at her own sedate pace. “Oh good! You got dinner! I was just about to check in and see if you had dinner.”
Hinata finally catches up, hooking her fingers onto Naruto’s arm. Naruto looks down, startled and a flicker of realization and guilt colours his face.
“Yamato-taichou just reminded me that we have a team seven meeting coming up. You know.”
Kakashi remembered that and nods. With Sakura’s schedule now, she would yet again miss the meeting.
“Shikamaru already cleared my schedule for that.”
“Well, Hinata and I are on a date,” he says as though Kakashi couldn’t tell from the fact that Naruto is wearing clean, pressed and well-fitted clothes that aren’t orange. “We’re going to somewhere that doesn’t serve ramen.”
Somewhere a bit more expensive, judging based on his clothes.
Hinata ducks her head with a shy smile.
“Naruto-kun is bringing me to Hiroto.”
“Expensive,” Kakashi says.
“Yes. It’s… the sort of place that Sakura-chan always wanted her boyfriend to bring her to, ya know?”
Maybe the younger her, Kakashi muses. During the war, all Sakura-chan wanted was anmitsu and red bean dumplings. It was the war, he supposes. War always had a way of burning everything else but survival out.
“Are you on your way back now, Kaka-sensei?”
Kakashi nods, once again regretting that he’s the Hokage now. Oh what he would do just to stick his face in Icha Icha and let people avoid him. Pity normal books didn’t have the Icha Icha effect.
“Just about to get some anmitsu for Sakura-chan,” he says.
Naruto’s jaws tighten, and he opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. There is a war of emotions in his blue eyes, emotions that Kakashi chooses not to figure out.
“Kaka-sensei…” Naruto says hoarsely like he had to strain to get his voice to work. “Tell… Sakura-chan that I’m okay, okay?”
“I will.” Kakashi ruffles his hair.
“Make sure to eat your dinner,” Naruto reminds him again, letting Hinata tug him down the street. “I’ll check! I’ll send Gama to check!”
“Of course.” He creases an eye at Naruto and watches until they turn around the corner and disappear.
Sakura would be pleased that Naruto is giving Hinata a chance. She had always told him about how if Naruto opened his eyes and looked, he would find happiness right next to him.
It’s really just him now.
“Sakura-chan?” Kakashi calls out as he returns home, dropping the boxes of takeout on the counter. “Not back I guess.”
He tugs his mask down and flops onto his well-worn couch, staring up at the camellia in its pot on the wall and remembers how they used to cuddle in the tents. There had been so little sleeping bags, that often people made do to either rotating with another person or sharing it. Sakura and he had shared theirs. Kakashi remembers how she would lean into him, to press her soft lips across his face.

Who would you say is the weirdest Blazblue character? I'm still trying to compare it and GG and thinking about it despite the convoluted storyline Blazblue's characters aren't all that bizarre, aside from alternate dimension stuff but even then I feel like that's pretty standard. Arakune's pretty weird, I guess?
arakune's deffo weird considering everything he went through and can do. I guess it depends on your metric of crazy shit? like tao and all the kakas are out here being cat clones that are like. nothing like their progenitor as far as we know unless tao is especially dumb cause torakaka and the elder are pretty competent but tao is out here constantly hungry and with the attention span of a squirrel. and then there's azrael who's weird cause like. he's literally saitama he's basically as strong as he needs to be for it to be funny except the like. two times mori ever wrote him being bested bc kokonoe. but like. he fuckin punched his way out of dimensional prison and that's literally one of the funniest things in bb as a whole. this is all just off the top of my head cause I jist woke,up but like. i feel it's kijda accurate if subjective

Dear Blogging
How was your week? It was the holidays here,I think. And for once, I made sure to make the most of it.
It is a very special Eid (Festival) for me, so I'd love to be talking about it mostly★
I woke up the other day dreaming of Sev in a way I didn't like, which is my #1 fear when it comes to character designing— dicing chunks of varied forms of love into some shape and listen to my precious creations talk, to use a more intimate term. (Which is more closer to describing how I feel about the process.) He was in a delicious form but wasn't himself, and that's the main goal of anything I draw; Trying to make them look themselves as possible. It didn't make me feel off as I thought I would and I do lots of sketches of him out of his character somehow and I don't care. I think this is nice. Actually, I'm enjoying myself atm drawing him in another possible that-doesn't-look-like-him-ugh-redraw episode, and I'm not being sarcastic about it, hehe. Specially with the new brush I made for myself, and I feel proud of it.
And talking more about episodes, I have made a garbage audio recording test on some speed paint I made few days ago to start somewhere. I wanted to record myself talking about the art process and all— to practice actual speech, I couldn't even settle on a tone of voice to begin with. Coming next in frustration, the video wouldn't upload and the browser keep crashing even tho it's 46 second vid. It's probably my network connections as ever, which makes me question my ability to upload videos. But we'll find something to work around that.
I think I like how I'm dealing with things lately. I'm in much more peace with things, I noticed even things that are urgent in my priorities aren't effecting my mood so drastically, I am in more control and I am thankful. So with that I was determined that I make this Eid special, with everything that I was blessed to happen to me.
I don't remember having a proper Eid beyond what snippets of my childhood memory brings me. I remember this outfit I loved crazily— black and had oranges painted on it, and Sissi had lemons on hers. (Maybe that's the roots of why I like saying the word orange so much and she lemons..). Before Eid in few days you get out charity if you can of what the country you are in be the source of main food -its rice here, then the day of eid you go to Eid prayer wearing new clothing, give money to youngsters, go to where there's lights everywhere, visit extended families— which I only remember questioning why are we there at all times. I remember kids with garlic-looking crackers, they throw it on the ground and they pop like mad, so there was alot of fireworks going on too.
Anyways, I cared for the candy and still. Because I mostly only got to have some in Eid. And that's pretty much was it throughout the years- Eid is candy. Didn't have anything else available. It's strange because I don't like sweets, only in chocolate— the darker the better tho.
I decorated the room the day before, and ya know, used the elder power in me to generate the feeling of Eid by all means. I didn't do much actually, everything just happened. I found what I need few days before without evern looking for it. Like this one song me and some of my siblings had loved in the days when we only had playstation as a source of music (we played the games' sound tracks). Just by pure luck we found it on YouTube, the nostalgia and how it's amazing hit us so hard we were all hysterical! It's old too, like- in the year 1998 or something. I put it as our party music. There are classics Arabic songs of Eid, but Arabic music -with some exceptions- never interested me in general. I know two- this one is like the Christmas tune for Eid, and just kids saying welcome Eid ~
I only know the 40 sec of it, have a listen:
https://youtu.be/c4QxNWG0qjI
More locally; this one is always everywhere, as a child it always made me giggle at how the singer moans the lyrics at the start.
It's saying may you be from whom wins the fortune of having happy Eid (or something similar) and may you have these times again in the coming years and so on.
There it is- first 40 sec again, heh:
https://youtu.be/n7a99KgEfPE
Veering from caltural taste a bit and back to mine; newer things happened in this Eid, I called it Eid Jadeed (it means new festival and it's rhymes with the traditional saying of Eid Sa'eed= happy festival)
For one— the important one, only a year ago I wished so hard I can have my baby sis take from the Eid car the was passing our streets with free nicknacks to make her day. Now her day is made because we got cheep nicknacks that she actually WANTED. And she kept saying 'Party time! Party time!' Which made me so happy I could just explode. Next second she spilled juice over her stuff and that moment was short lived, still she loved everything, hehe.
Other minor things happened like; as much as I hate taking pictures I did throughout the party and everything. I didn't feel like my picture was a demon staring back at me, and I actually liked how I looked in them so it was nice for a change.
Tumblr media
What else? Oh yeah, ofc crackers, dried fruits, nuts, chocolates and this beautiful creature of a plant, Kaka— we enjoyed eating.
Oh and I was congratulated of Eid by ppl online I was surprised they remembered me, heh. And one person from the Snape fandom, too! (you know yourself 🙈)
It was just marvelous, I am a happy Mani ⭐
Wish you all the best my dears, sincerely as ever 💛⭐🎆

It seems that out of all the Hierarchical Cities that were under the NOL’s control, Kagutsuchi might as well have been the Haven of Coincidences. While this memory took place outside of the city limits, it was still relatively close to the hidden Kaka Village. This was from a time when Ragna was still under Jubei’s care, with this being the Reaper’s first time ever seeing the city itself. Still young in its construction, Kagutsuchi was nevertheless a marvelous sight to behold... But that wouldn’t be the focus of this dream.
Two members of the Kaka Clan had managed to meet up with the wandering duo, the elders of both groups having engaged in their own private discussion. The Kaka woman in the dark hoodie-- which Ragna remembers being named Torakaka-- was allowing the younger girl to do as she pleased for now. But what did the little kitten do with this freedom?
Inadvertently try to start a fight with Ragna, fearful that the teenager would try to “eat her.”
“The bad guy’s gonna eat meee, nooo!”
The white haired boy wasn’t really helping his own case, given how he was chasing the Kaka girl around the forest to get her to stop calling him a cat eater. All the while, the fully grown Reaper himself remained by a tree away from the chase. And he wasn’t the lone member of this audience-- The good doctor herself was getting a glimpse of this once forgotten memory... of how Ragna and Taokaka first met, long before the Kagutsuchi debacle that brought them all together once again.
Tumblr media
“Hm... This was when me and Tao first met. I had forgotten all about this until I was stuck in Lost Town, healin’ up from those wounds you treated.”
